Every now and then...
Sleep catches you off guard.
You give in to the little that lays beneath all your striving to be grown.
I watch as the "big kid" rolls from your face.
Suddenly the roundness of your cheeks show themselves.
Your lips soften and reveal their tender rosebud lines.
Your eyes and lashes drift to a lullaby peace.
A familiar button shape peaks from your nose.
The slow up and down rhythm of your breathing is a melody I know by heart.
And there, in that moment,
I see my baby again.
