Parenting is so often filled with questioning, wondering constantly if we’re getting any of this right. Every now and then we’re gifted with a little reflection that maybe we’re not doing it all wrong.
That was this moment yesterday.
Dynamics in a bigger family can be hard. Peter wanted to have a family game night. He got dressed up in Hawaiian gear to put the party in the atmosphere, he carefully selected the games, set them up and tried to rally the siblings. But as it goes with sisters and brothers sometimes, there was an argument over which game to do first, who would go first, etc etc. Peter finally put his head down in frustration and a tear.
I got up to attempt to manage it all, and then this. Joesph moved over and cradled his sad big brother, comforted him. They reset the mood with this show of empathy, and moved on.
Acting when observing someone’s hurt, offering compassion, a warm hug that says I understand… so very thankful for this little YES moment!❤️
